Chiropractic doesn’t have to be all it’s cracked up to be

So, then why do chiropractors crack? And is there an alternative, perhaps one that might even produce better results?

When chiropractors “adjust” a joint, the cracking noise you may hear is simply the release of gases that have built up in the joint. But more is occurring at the same time. If the joint that is being worked on was out of place, also known as a subluxation, the thrust that the chiropractor performs can also realign the joint, thus hopefully leaving you feeling better when you walk out than when you walk in.

Research has shown that chiropractic adjustments can decrease pain, muscle tension, and inflammation, as well as improve mobility, range of motion, and much more.

But not all chiropractors believe a “crack” is necessary to get those results. In fact, there are many who practice another form of chiropractic in which a simple touch, they claim, will achieve the same and even better results. This form of chiropractic is called “non-force” chiropractic.
